Black, Gold and Silver 2020
Inspiration for this painting came from the darkness of the current global situation.
I started to see everything in darker shades, and transferred these feelings to this piece. The accretion of black encaustic is representative of the build-up of tension surrounding the global Covid-19 pandemic which was taking place as this was created.
The rough patches and sombre colours reflect the concerns, dark times and uncertainty of our ongoing daily challenge to try to escape the virus, while the golds and silvers suggest our desire and determination to pull through by instilling a renewed sense of hope.
I want to take the viewer on a journey from the dark to a more optimistic future with light at the end of the tunnel.
